Rebecca likes walking...on paths. I like walking a little bit of the beaten track. I had a day off today so decided to head for the Mournes on a solo ascent of Slieve Bernagh. Solo ascent is my little joke, the mountain is only 750m high, but I think it's the third highest peak in Northern Ireland behind Donard and Commedagh...I may be wrong however. I used to walk here a lot with my old boy when I was young, we used to climb in the Mournes every Sunday, I think we managed all the peaks, well all the decent ones anyway.It's a shame his fitness is not what it was, I'd love to have his companionship on these walks again.
These photos are a bit duff, I was using an old rattlebox of a camera, and the mist was pretty bad. I felt like a real intrepid explorer using the old map and compass when the mist closed in at the top of Bernagh.
Hopefully Stephen knows something about the geology of Bernagh, the Tors are very impressive, rocks the size of my house, must have been some serious 'geological activity' on the go up there.
